A memory of I went boating in the deltas with my brother and his kids. It was always a wonderful experience, one which typically took place early in the morning. The California Delta is an amazingly beautiful place to paint.
Sketches: Dawn of the D
Vernon's brother Curt, also a US Navy veteran, had a nice home up in central California where they had fun exploring the deltas in the morningtime reight before sunrise. The first and second sketches show the time and difference in detail from one sketch to the other, as well as those of the final painting itself.
Take a glance at the first known sketch, done on February 16, 1980. There's a sketch for another painting in that sketch sheet, one titled "Darwin's Man". Both sketches were to become full fledged paintings, in 1980.
